Though the day was being viewed as ‘doomsday’ by many, the date had something exciting in store for the less privileged school children.
It was the first time that a group of 27 children from ‘Abode of Peace’, an orphanage boarded the mock flight. The airhostess offering a tray of chocolates, the boarding pass issued to the passengers and the announcement of the take-off thrilled them.
To create awareness on the happening industries like aviation, hospitality and tourism among the poor students and enlighten them with a related experience, the event ‘enlightening the destitute’ was organised by Flying Cats in association with an NGO Make a Difference (MAD). The event saw children enjoying themselves with music, gifts and loads of fun.
Envisaging the future needs, volunteers of MAD organise field trips for the children of ‘Abode of Peace’ and ‘PAPA Home’. This time, it was an educational trip to introduce them to a new place and educate them on the employment opportunities available in aviation, hospitality and tourism.
Out of 27 children who attended, five pairs set the stage on fire walking on the ramp with ‘prince and princess’ as the theme. David Raj was the prince, Pavani was awarded as princess and Joseph and Soujanya bagged the ‘prince and princess’ title.
Speaking on the occasion, managing partner of Flying Cats P. Prem Mortha said: “Financial status need not be a stumbling block for people to come up in life. We are planning to provide free training to the children at the orphanage. Depending on the interest, we would extend our support to one or two children with free education which would otherwise cost a minimum of Rs.1.20 lakh for a one-year course.”
Executive director of District SC Co-operative Society Ltd N. Nambudripad, President of Vizag Journalists Forum G. Sreenu Babu, centre head of Flying Cats D.V.S. Ravi Kishore and others also participated.
