The emotive tones of Sashidara Kote, Bangalore based Carnatic singer, drew the Kannadigas at Kaveri Kannada Sangha (KKS) here on Sunday to observe the 449 death anniversary of popular lyricist and music composer Purandara Dasa.
Music lovers were treated with a series of kritis of Annamayya, Ramadasu and Purandara Dasa on the occasion. ‘Gajawadana Belade’ in Hamsadhwani, ‘Paluke bangaramaye’ in Ananda Bhairavi and ‘Madhukara vruthi’ in Indola Ragam were among a few recitals rendered with accompanists A. Satya Visala (violin) and Tirumala Rao (tabla).
“Every year, we observe the death anniversary of great composer Purandara Dasa,” said secretary of K.K.S. Vishnu Murthy Bhatt. “Many musicians and noted singers come from Karnataka to perform. This way, we thought it will be nice to pay tributes to our Karnataka Sangeetha Pitamaha Purandara Dasa,” he said. The programme was inaugurated by Shruthi Seshadri, wife of district Collector V. Seshadri. President of the sangha Sriram and community members also participated.
