Sipping a glass of chilled fruit juice can be very refreshing especially in summer. Apart from quenching ones thirst, fruit juices are also packed with enzymes and nutrients, informed Trishita Issar, Clinical Dietician of Manipal Hospital. With a little effort, these quenchers can be made at home to be enjoyed by the entire family. But when you are venturing outdoors, hygiene aspect should be taken care of as the water and crushed ice may not be of good quality.

Lemon is packed with vitamin C and available all through the year. Studies reveal that it helps in preventing cancer-attacking cells by freeing the radicals, combats infections, reduces cholesterol levels, improves digestion and also builds immunity. Stocking the refrigerators with fresh lemons will be useful. “Pomegranate juice can be best recommended for pregnant women as it acts as a good source of fibre, vitamin C and has antioxidant properties that particularly help in developing the baby's bones and teeth”, said Ms. Trishita. The general health of anaemic persons will vastly improve by drinking the delicious drink on a regular basis. Mangoes contain soluble dietary fibre pectin, apart from lupeol that acts as a check in controlling tumour cells of prostate cancer. The fruit is rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A.

“Most smokers suffer from vitamin A deficiency. As a result, they are more prone to cancer and emphysema. Papaya is very rich in vitamin A and therefore consuming the fruit on a daily basis helps in reducing the risk of cancer caused due to smoking,” suggested the dietician.

Apart from being rich in vitamin C, oranges are filled with potassium that helps in reducing the risk of abdominal cancer. Nutritionists suggest that the fruit can boost the energy levels if taken regularly along with breakfast.
