Youth ‘ends’ life

February 16, 2017 12:46 am | Updated 12:46 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Depressed over the refusal of his”girlfriend” to come out for a date on Valentine’s Day, a 22-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by consuming harmful chemicals here at Yerravaram at Atchutapuram mandal in the district on late on Tuesday night. The youth was identified as K. Durga.

According to sub-inspector of Atchutapuram D. Dheenabandhu, the police team recovered a cellphone from the pocket of the victim. “There is a recorded conversation with a girl from the same village, in which the victim was pleading with her to come for a date on the Valentine’s Day. There is also a text message sent by the victim to the girl in which stated that if she turned down his offer, he would commit suicide. Basing on the messages and conversation and preliminary investigation, we suspect that Durga might have committed suicide,” said the inspector.

The police said family members found Durga dead with froth oozing out of his mouth. “Post-mortem has been conducted and we are awaiting the medical report to ascertain whether he has consumed poison or some kind of pesticide,” the police said.
