Man arrested in chain snatching cases

Visakhapatnam: The city police on Wednesday arrested a person, who was involved in as many as five chain snatching cases, in Anandapuram and Tagarapuvalasa areas.

The accused was identified as Karrothu Hemanth (21), resident of Podugupalem village of Anandapuram.

According to ADCP (Crimes) S. Varadaraju, for the last couple of months, Hemanth had gained entry into several houses and snatched away gold chains from women, when they were alone at home.

In first case at Anandapuram, the accused entered a house and asked for drinking water. When the housewife brought water, he snatched away the gold chain and fled.

In the other cases at Tagarapuvalasa, Santhapeta and Kothapeta areas under Bheemunipatnam police station limits, he snatched away gold chains from women while they were sleeping in their houses during day time.

After forming a special team, the cops nabbed Hemanth. The accused is an ex-offender and has several cases of chain snatching in Vizianagaram.

Moreover, Hemanth is also involved in a housebreaking case at Three Town limits in 2015.
