January 29, 2017 11:58 pm | Updated 11:58 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana has said that a date on holding of elections to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) can be taken only after the legal hurdles are cleared.

Interacting with the media after a review meeting at the VUDA Office here on Sunday evening, the Minister said that court cases were pending regarding the merger of some areas with the GVMC and registration of voters could take at least three months. A decision regarding the date of the election could be taken only after these were completed.

He said that 1.93 lakh houses would be constructed in the State in the next one and a half years. On the allegations of the farmers of Mudapaka village that their land was being grabbed in the name of ‘Land Pooling Scheme’, Mr. Narayana said that no decision was taken on the issue so far.
