Confusion and tension prevailed at Andhra Bank in Anandapuram in Visakhapatnam city on Monday, when two farmers having same name and same account number had heated argument over withdrawal of money from the account.
As per the reports, the district administration had deposited some amount in a small farmer’s account as compensation towards his land which was acquired for IIM-Visakhapatnam at Gambhiram area in the city.
The government had deposited over ₹4 lakh in savings bank account of Illipilli Ramu, small farmer of Dukkavanipalem area in the city.
On Monday, he found that some amount was withdrawn from his account. Ramu then entered into a heated argument with the bank officials and after an assessment the bank officials came to a conclusion that another man by the same name ‘Illipilli Ramu’ of Dukkavanipalem and having the same account number withdrew ₹ 2.5 lakh.
The bank officials admitted that they had the given same number to two people, whose names were also same and were from the same area about four years ago.
Bank manager K. Chandramouli then called the other Ramu and the amount was then credited back to the former.
However, Ramu (small farmer) claimed that ₹7 lakh was withdrawn from his account without his knowledge in the last four years.
The bank manager told him that they would examine the issue and will take further action.
