Cinema upgraded with 54 audio channels

Renovated Sri Melody to screen films from Feb. 10

February 07, 2017 01:12 am | Updated 01:12 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Be it the sea waves lapping against the shore, breathtaking view of the cascading waterfalls, muted whisper of splendid backwaters or a horse galloping into the woods, every scene that unfolds on the screen could virtually be felt at Sri Melody as it now sports 54 audio channels.

With Dolby Atmos surround sound technology making its way into the cinema, every minute sound gets sharper, immersing the viewers in the make-believe world and leaving them spellbound.

Unlike the traditional format, Dolby Atmos soundtracks have a different audio mechanism that transmits sound through varied channels and audio objects.

“With overhead speakers being the unique concept, the experience of watching cinema becomes livelier through the upgraded version. In addition, the 360 degree sound effect that passes through a series of channels will make the viewers feel as if they are part of the action,” says Ashim Mathur, senior director (Marketing) of Dolby Technology India Private Limited.

Depending on the screen size, the Atmos-enabled format can accommodate up to 64 speakers, providing a pulsating experience to the viewers. “From the normal 5.1 version, the theatre has been upgraded to the new audio format with high dynamic range screen and 774 seating capacity. The idea is to offer a new form of entertainment with advanced audio and visual effects,” explains A. Kusumakumari, owner of the cinema, said that films would be screened with the new technology from February 10.

With over 50 screens already enabled with Atmos sound technology across Andhra Pradesh, the Dolby Laboratories team is keen on spreading its wings in the port city.
