On the first day of filing nominations for the Panchayat elections on Tuesday, 71 filed nominations for the post of sarpanches and 114 for ward members.
The following are details of nominations received in different Revenue Divisions, according to District Panchayat Officer K. Sudhakar: Visakhapatnam-sarpanches 10, ward members 25; Anakapalle-sarpanches 19, ward members 42; Narsipatnam-sarpanches 23; ward members 36; Paderu-sarpanches 19, ward members 11.
Elections to Sarpanches of 920 Gram Panchayats and 9,214 ward members will be held in three phases in the district. The schedule is: On July 23-Paderu Revenue Division (254 Panchayats and 2,446 ward members); July 27-Visakhapatnam (116 Panchayats and 1,194 ward members) and Narsipatnam (238 Panchayats and 2,436 ward members) and July 31-Anakapalle (322 Panchayats and 3,138 ward members).
