7-Star Rating Protocol meet to assess ‘Swachata’ quotient

First of its kind tool designed on SMART approach

The Seven Star Rating Protocol will be holding a meeting in the city on Wednesday to assess the ‘swachata’ quotient of the city as part of the nation-wide Swachh Bharat Mission.

Talking to The Hindu , on the role and objectives of the rating protocol, former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University and convener of the Swachh Bharat ambassadors V. Balamohandas said, “The 7-star rating is innovatively designed on a SMART (Single metric, measurable, achievable , rigorous verification and targeted towards outcomes) approach - making it the first of its kind rating tool for assessing cleanliness of cities and towns in India.”

Parameters

According to him the system is based on 12 parameters such as door-to-door collection of garbage, segregation at source, sweeping of public and commercial and residential areas (no visible eyesores on streets), waste storage bins, litter bins and material recovery facility, bulk waste generators compliance, scientific waste processing, scientific land filling and C&D waste management, user fees, penalties and spot fines and visible beautification of city.
