600 LRS approvals given

As a follow-up to the special drive on clearing Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS), Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar on Monday gave away 600 letters of approval. Cautioning against buying plots in illegal layouts, he said either Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority or the local body would never develop or provide basic amenities to residential plots purchased from illegal and unapproved layouts.

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority was the only competent authority to approve layouts in its jurisdiction in East Godavarai, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. In the areas falling outside VUDA purview, the Director of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) would issue permissions for development of layouts by any private individual or firm, he said.

Prospective buyers should insist on approved layout plan (LP) from developers before purchasing a plot, Mr. Sasidhar said.

On the LRS scheme extended by government for regularisation of plots in unauthorized layouts, he clarified that the regularization was being done with some limitations.

Since the issue involved crucial aspects like verification of documents, land ownership, involvement of government land, field inspection, approach roads etc., clearance of applications would take time, he said.

Out of the 19,149 applications received so far, 6,988 applications were issued final approvals and 4,023 rejected for reasons of ineligibility. The remaining 8,138 applications were under process, Mr. Sasidhar said.

The applicants whose approvals were ready were informed and invited to receive the orders in the special drive conducted on Monday.

Most of the applicants, especially senior citizens, appreciated the initiative taken by the Vice-Chairman and thanked him.

Chief Urban Planner R.J. Vidyullatha, Chief Accounts Officer and incharge Secretary D. Vijaya Bharathi, Chief Engineer I. Viswanatha Rao and DFO BVA Krishna Murthy attended the programme.
