A fire destroyed more than 50 huts on the hill-slope at Thotagaruvu on Sunday evening.

No casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire was not known though a spark from a hearth was said to have caused it.

The area was inaccessible making it difficult for fire tenders to put out the fire.

For about three hours three fire tenders worked dousing the fire.

The exact number of huts also could not be known for the same reason.

According to District Fire Officer S.V. Narasimham, the loss of the property has not been assessed yet.

Officials said that even if there was an LPG cylinder blast it was only after the fire began.
