Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel nabbed four persons when they were trying to allegedly smuggle ganja here on Friday. The cops also seized about 100 kg of ganja worth to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh from them.
The arrested were identified as Ramaswami Karthik and P. Appan of Delhi and Chandrasekhar and D. Chand of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the GRP officials, the accused were arrested when they were trying to board the Visakhapatnam – New Delhi bound Swarna Jayanti Express train at Visakhapatnam.
As per GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Venkat Rao, the accused had procured the contraband from Anakapalle and surrounding areas in the district and came to the city railway station to transport the ganja to Delhi. Acting on a tip-off, cops arrested the four under Sections 18 (C) and 20 (B) of NDPS Act of 1985 and investigation is on.
