The 3-tier network, introduced in the offices of the Transport Department in the city and district a couple of months ago, has been streamlined to a large extent. The only problem is making of correction in data, like spelling mistakes in names, have to be done only through the central server in Hyderabad, which will have all the data, pertaining to all districts in the State.
The 3-tier network, developed under the AP State Wide Area Network (APSWAN), facilitates most transactions at the click of a button. It will provide inter-connectivity between the districts and transactions can be done across the counter as the data from any district could be accessed at the click of a button. The system facilitates easy storage, retrieval and access to data.
It eliminates delays due to communication and reduces the drudgery of typing information that is already available in the central server besides minimising the chances of errors. The work at Regional Offices can also be monitored on a day-to-day basis. This would increase accountability of the staff and officers and result in greater transparency in services. It will also reduce delays in obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Clearance Certificate (CC) during inter-district transfers.
“In the past (under 2-tier system) corrections could be made locally but now any corrections or changes have to be done in the central server, located in the Transport Commissioner’s Office in Hyderabad.
One in-charge has been appointed for every two districts in the State. SMSs are being sent whenever corrections are required and they are being addressed promptly. But when applicants turn up late in the day, their problems are getting resolved the next day,” Deputy Transport Commissioner M. Prabhu Raj Kumar told The Hindu on Saturday.
“Smart Cards with bio-metric features will be introduced after the present stock of old cards is exhausted. The Smart Cards will have a memory chip that will contain all information pertaining to the vehicle (C Book) or the motorist (Driving Licence) as the case may be.
Only the basic information like the name of the motorist and date of birth will visible on the card while the rest of the information would be embedded in the chip. Transport officials can access that information by swiping the card in their machine during inspections,” he said. The user charges would go up after introduction of the Smart cards. The driving tracks at Gambeeram and work on construction of a new office building for the Gajuwaka Transport Office at Aganampudi were nearing completion, he said.
