Thirty-four teams from law schools from various parts of the country are participating in the second Damodaram Sanjivayya national moot court competition being conducted by Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University from Friday to Sunday.
The theme of this year’s competition was competition law since competition becomes inevitable and proved to be an interest area for law students, university Vice-Chancellor R.G.B. Bhagavat Kumar said.
Moot court competitions were being held for the law students to help them learn the practical side of the law, he said.
Advocate-General for the State of Telangana and for the State of Andhra Pradesh P. Venugopal would inaugurate the competition.
Faculty from law schools and bureaucrats would act as judges.
After the preliminary rounds, quarterfinals would be held on Saturday and followed by semi-finals and the final on Sunday. The winning team would receive a trophy and cash award of Rs. 30,000, while the runner-up would get a trophy and Rs. 20,000 as cash award. Other prizes include Black’s Law Dictionary for best memorial presentation; a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 5,000 each to the best speaker of the competition and best speaker of the final.
Faculty members Dayananda Murthy C.P., R. Bharat Kumar and Viswachandra Nath would organise the programme. Iswarya Mogoluru would be the student convenor and ten students and volunteers would be part of the organisation.
A few days ago the university organised a guest lecture by Advisor to the Competition Commission of India Parmod Kumar Singh on the Competition Law, which he said was framed to eliminate the unwarranted situation that arises due to competition between business houses; to save small business enterprises from big companies and to protect the interests of the consumer.
He also explained the employment opportunities available for young advocates in the Competition Commission of India.
