Principal Commissioner of Income Tax B.G. Reddy on Thursday said they collected a tax of Rs.4,400 crore from Visakhapatnam registering a growth rate of 30 per cent – highest in the country.
He was speaking at a conference conducted by the ASSOCHAM on ease of doing business in Andhra Pradesh in association with AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation and the Department of Industries, AP Government.
Mr. Reddy said Visakhapatnam had emerged as the most happening city in the country.
He said the Income Tax Department was taking several steps to address the grievances of the assessees.
Giving details of the complaints received by them, he said most of them were with regard to refunds and pending claims in cases chosen for scrutiny.
e-filing
Stating that they had started several user-friendly initiatives including e-filing of returns, he said now refund payment was streamlined.
Mr. Reddy said based on certain parameters, they select cases for scrutiny. Central Board of Direct Taxes was also keen that once cleared in scrutiny, an assessee should not be subjected to it in quick succession.
He said the department was also making efforts to widen the tax net, ensure tax compliance and address the concerns of the assessees.
