R & B Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu on Wednesday inaugurated Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh’s academies for archery and rifle-shooting at Sanskruti Global School at Parawada.

Describing the new sports policy being followed by the State government as the best, he said providing reservation to sportspersons would help in youth taking up sports enthusiastically.

Barring the Railways and public sector oil companies no organisation was providing quota for sportspersons for employment.

Mr Ayyanna Patrudu said the potential of Girijans in archery and fishermen in swimming should be put to good use for getting medals.

Principal Secretary, Sports, L V Subrahmanyam said as part of the sports policy physical literacy would be introduced in 60,000 schools. Six SAAP academies- three each for boys and girls- were being launched and those selected would get national and international-level coaching.

Collector Pravin Kumar said the academies being started in public private partnership would be provided buildings and other infrastructure.

MLC Pappala Chalapathi Rao, District Sports Development Officer June Gallyot Rodrigues and Dronacharya-awardee I Venkateswara Rao participated.
