Three post offices in the city refurbished under Project Arrow with ‘look and feel’ ambience were inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Industry and Commerce D. Purandeswari on Saturday. The Project Arrow, conceived in April 2008 when Jyotiraditya Scindia was Minister of State for Communications to give a new-look to the post offices in phases for an identical appearance with core banking solutions for faster mail and money order delivery.
At separate functions here, sub-post offices at P&T Colony, Seethammadhara, Lawson’s Bay Colony and Waltair Railway Station head office were inaugurated. The post offices were identified for modernisation under Project Arrow in 2012-13. A stamp of Ms. Purandeswari printed under ‘My Stamp’ scheme was released. Under the scheme, anyone can get a Rs.5 stamp printed bearing his/her picture on payment of Rs.300.
Project Arrow envisages a visible, tangible and noteworthy difference in the post office operations that matters to ‘aam aadmi,’ to have well-defined performance indicators, convert post offices in rural areas into a window for availing services hitherto confined to urban areas and help post offices play a larger role in the social and economic transformation of the country. Complimenting the postal authorities for the initiative, Ms. Purandeswari said postal service had undergone drastic change starting from bullock cart days to having own aircraft.
Biometric-based payment facility has been launched in select post offices in East Godavari, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
Post Master General Sarada Sampath said they were working with commitment to improve the quality of service in all the fields. Regular monitoring was being done for better customer care. Senior Superintendent of Posts K.V.L.N. Murthy, Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas, Congress MLA Tynala Vijay Kumar and others were present.
