Three members of an inter-State gang were nabbed and a fourth member managed to give the slip to the police on Tuesday. Gold ornaments, weighing 1 kg, were recovered from them. The gang burgled a house at Duvvada and fled with stolen ornaments in a car. The accused – Salim, Akbar, Yousuf and Siri Nayak – were stopped by the police at Vempada Toll Gate. Instead of stopping the car, they sped away and Sub Inspectors Shanmukha Rao (Nakkapalli) and Prem Kumar (Payakaraopeta) chased them and took them into custody at Gullipadu. However, Salim managed to escape. On getting information, the city police brought them to the city. The accused had gained entry into a flat located on the fifth floor at Duvvada. House owner K. Srinath, a teacher, went to school and his wife went to a flat on the ground floor. The burglars gagged the watchman and locked him in the bathroom before commiting the offence.
