3 home guards among sixheld for smuggling ganja

Narsipatnam police arrested six persons, including three home guards, for allegedly trying to smuggle dry ganja near Duggada area under Narsipatnam police station limits, late on Wednesday night.

Acting on a tip off, a special police team led by Narsipatnam inspectors A. Dasarath and M. Prabhakar Reddy, seized the vehicle along with 540 kgs of ganja and arrested the smugglers.

The constables involved have been identified as V. Lubbu, Chemidi Srinivas and K.V.V.S.N.V. Prasad, all attached to the Narsipatnam police station.

The others arrested are Pangi Siva, resident of Chintapalli, Rubi Killo from Malkangiri, Odisha, and K. Ramesh from Nathavaram mandal.

According to ASP B Satya Yeshbabu, the contraband was procured from Chintapalli and was being transported to Tuni in East Godavari.

According to Inspector Prabhakar Reddy, a load of coconut was used to camouflage the drug in the vehicle.

The seized drug is estimated to be worth about Rs. 50 lakh. A case under under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act has been filed. The investigation is on, and the cops are looking out for some more leads.
