Three youths were taken into custody here on Saturday for their alleged involvement in gang-rape of a 23-year-old former call centre employee from Hyderabad. The arrested were identified as Naka Yernendra Rao (28) alias Kiran, Daliboina Shiva (26) and Nakka Sunil Kumar (25) of Ramnagar area in the city.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) C.M. Trivikram Varma, the girl had come to the city to attend a wedding function on March 4. After attending the wedding at Pendurti, she along with her friend Srinivas returned to Ramnagar. “As Srinivas’s house was full with relatives, she moved to another friend’s house by name Chandu in the same area,” said the DCP.

According to the police, on Thursday night when all of them were having a party near the Lion’s Community Hall at Ramnagar, the boys left seeing the night patrol police, leaving the girl stranded on the road.

It was then that one of the accused Sunil Kumar and his friend Sanivada Ramu approached her and offered to drop her home. After she got into the car, Sunil reportedly called up his brother Yernendera from her cell phone.

Yernendra came with his friend Shiva and shifted the victim into an Innova car and drove down to a gas godown located in the area where all the three allegedly raped the girl.

Later, the victim was dropped at the railway station around 3 a.m. on Friday. The victim then called up her friends and was taken to Chandu’s home. On Friday, she called up Shiva from the number that was stored in her mobile under the pretext of needing some help and when he arrived her friends caught him and handed him over to the II Town Police. “Based on the confession of Shiva, we arrested the other two,” said the DCP.

The police have registered cases.
