3-day consultation on child safeguard mechanism begins

A three-day children consultation on safeguard mechanism and role of child protection duty bearers designated under various government departments and enactments began at K.L. Puram Youth Hostel at Vizianagaram on Tuesday.

Hundreds of children from Salur, Makkuva, Pachipenta, Jami, Gantyada, Bhogapuram of Vizianagaram district, Araku Valley, Ananthagiri and Dumbriguda mandals of Visakhapatnam district. The consultation is being organised by Nature, a civil society organisation in collaboration with various departments, Chid Fund of India and A.P State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

APSCPCR Chairperson Ganta Hymavathi, who inaugurated called for concerted efforts all concerned to achieve a child-friendly society. The aim of the programme was to build child-friendly districts in Vizianagaram and other areas with the liaison of government departments and APSCPCR, said Nature founder-director S.B. Balaraju.

Commission member Kesali Appa Rao, A.V. Ramana from special juvenile police unit, District Child Protection Officer B.H. Laxmi and others spoke.
