Posing themselves as officials from Vigilance Department, two unidentified miscreants fled away with ₹ 7.5 lakh cash from two persons, at Lambasingi under Chintapalle Police station limits, on Monday morning.

According to Chintapalle SI Ramesh, the victims were coming in a car from Malkangiri district of Odisha and were on their way to Narsipatnam. The unidentified miscreants intercepted the car after they crossed the Lambasingi checkpost.

According to a complaint lodged by the victims, the miscreants beat them up and questioned the veracity of the cash, as it did not have any records. They then took away the cash and asked them to collect it back from the office.

As per the victims they were carrying the cash to purchase urea and a few other agricultural products.

As soon as the police were alerted a search operation was launched and the miscreants were arrested by the Narsipatnam police. But it is learnt that they were not in possession of the cash. Investigation is on.
