Sixteen persons from Visakhapatnam district were trapped in Iraq’s internal conflict and their families were worried over their fate as confirmed information about their welfare or how they could come out of the strife-torn country has not reached them.

As of Monday, 10 from Elamanchili mandal, two each from Visakha urban and Gajuwaka mandals, one each from Anakapalle and Kasimkota mandals were reportedly trapped in Iraq. They were working in construction companies and other organisations in that country. All these establishments were closed now.

Collector S. Solomon Arokia Raj sent details of these 16 to the State Government, to be forwarded to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, which is expected to locate them in Iraq and know their welfare in a few days through the Indian Mission in Baghdad. The details of the persons whom their families are not able to contact, can be given to the Indian Mission in Baghdad, or the NRI Cell in AP Secretariat in Hyderabad or to the toll-free number at the Collectorate.
