VISAKHAPATNAM: Multi-day cricket is the base of the game and is most useful for youngsters, veteran sports writer and commentator, and former Rector of Andhra University A. Prasanna Kumar said here on Saturday.
“Twenty20 format and IPL are favourites of the present day generation, but one can learn a lot about the game and become good in it through multi-day cricket only,” Prof. Prasanna Kumar said while participating in the valedictory of the sixth R.V.V.K. Prasad trophy tournament at the ACA-VDCA stadium.
He and VDCA vice-president D.S. Varma recalled the contribution made by R.V.V.K. Prasad for the growth of cricket in Visakhapatnam.
General secretary of the VDCA and former Test umpire K. Parthasaradhi said that six teams, divided into two pools, participated in the league-cum-knockout tournament.
Joint secretary of the VDCA P. Bhogendra Babu was present.
Services rendered by photographer K. Bhaskara Rao for the game were appreciated.
K.S. Bharat, G. Manish, and D. Ravi Kumar scored a century each and G. Manish, Ch. Someswara Rao, G. Shankar Rao, S.H. Srinivas, and U.M.R.K. Raju recorded a five-for each.
East Coast Railway Sports Association won the trophy and Metro CC was the runner-up. ECoRSA won the trophy after a gap of one season.
