YSRC leader held on code violation charge

Y.S.R. Congress Party leader P. Gowtham Reddy arrested for violating election code, at Satyanarayana Puram in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

Vijayawada Central constituency in-charge of YSRC party P. Gowtham Reddy was arrested here on Tuesday on charge of violation of election code of conduct.

The code came into force from July 3 and will continue till the completion of the final phase of the panchayat elections across the State. Panchayat elections will be held in three phases on July 23, 27 and 31.

The YSRC leader was picked up from his residence at Satynarayanapuram on Tuesday along with 10 other party workers, including two women, and taken to the Fifth Town Police Station. He and the party workers were, however, released in the afternoon after they obtained station bail.

According to the police he was arrested for conducting the birthday celebrations of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in about 40 locations in the city on Monday.
