YSRC faces wrath of electorate in Krishna

The only respite to the YSRC are wins at Nuzvid, Pamarru (SC), Vijayawada (West) and Gudivada

May 16, 2014 10:56 pm | Updated 10:56 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

YSR Congress has apparently failed to make a good impact in Krishna district in the general elections despite its stand for United Andhra.

Barring success of a few candidates, the three-and-half-year-old party has failed to perform in its first general elections, and could not meet its own expectations.

The party’s senior and high profile leaders were headed for a disastrous defeat. The only respite to the YSRC are wins at Nuzvid, Pamarru (SC), Vijayawada (West) and Gudivada.

More interestingly, the leaders, who joined YSRC during its inception stage, have lost the election. Prominent among them are YSRC Krishna district convener Samineni Udayabhanu, Punuru Gowtham Reddy, and Vangaveeti Radhakrishna.

While Mr. Udayabhanu served as the Whip during Congress government, Mr. Radhakrishna was MLA. Mr. Reddy, former CPI leader, served as election observer in initial days of the party. Mr. Udayabhanu won two times from Jaggaiahpet constituency on Congress ticket.

The other senior leaders who faced drubbing are Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani), Buragadda Vedavyas and Jogi Ramesh. Former minister Kolusu Parthasarathy switched loyalties to YSR Congress just before elections. But, he could not escape the wrath of people. He lost the election to TDP sitting MP Konakalla Narayana Rao.

The magic of high profile candidate Koneru Rajendra Prasad did not work in Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency. He lost the election to TDP candidate Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) by a significant margin.
