A two-day photo exhibition on late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s numerous visits to Krishna district began at Press Club in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday. The photo feature has been organised on the sidelines of the meeting of the State executive of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists. The Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh extended financial support to the organising of the exhibition.
Minister for Health Insurance and Arogyasri Pithani Satyanarayana, who inaugurated the exhibition, said that the photo feature mirrors late Rajasekhara Reddy’s style of functioning and governance in the State. The five-year rule of Rajasekhara Reddy touched every heart and life in the State. He was the embodiment of love and affection, a leader with charisma and popular support. Rajasekhara Reddy strived hard for providing facilities to journalists, and to ensure freedom of the media, he said.
The Minister observed that the role of the media increased by leaps and bounds in the recent past, particularly after the advent of TV channels. It led to more transparency and competition among the various media. He wished news photographers from the city would win more prizes and awards apart from honing their skills.
Senior journalist C. Raghavachari felt that Rajasekhara Reddy was empathetic towards journalists. There was a need to set up a reference library on the life of YSR, he opined. Mayor M. V. Ratna Bindu, Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu, Indian Union of Journalists secretary-general K. Srinivas Reddy, Press Club president A. Brahmayya and Secretary P. Madhusudhana Rao, APUWJ Krishna urban unit secretary Ch. Ravi and others were present.
