The policies and promises made by Y.S.R. Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy are similar to the policies and promises of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu rather than those of his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has said.
The MP hoped that one of the party senior MPs from the State would get a Cabinet berth at the Centre as Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy did not subscribe to the thinking that only funds flow to Andhra Pradesh would suffice. His predecessor, YSR and N. Chandrababu Naidu were satisfied with sanction of funds to the State, he reminded.
At a press conference at the Vijayawada Press Club on Monday Mr. Rajagopal said that the promises made by the Y.S.R. Congress after its first plenary session recently were most impractical.
He said that the implementation of all the promises would cost a whopping amount of Rs 56,000 crore.
He said similar promises were made by the ‘Mahacootami' Grand alliance (TDP and its allies) and the ‘Megacootami' (PRP and its allies) before the 2009 elections, but the people did not have any confidence in them.
Mr Jagan in the resolutions released after the plenary promised every student between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 a year. He also promised that he would build 10 lakh houses a year.
That alone would cost Rs 10,000 crore, he observed.
Two proposals made by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, that is, giving loans to self help groups and farmer at interest rates that were lower then ‘pavalavavaddi' were also appropriated by the Y.S.R. Congress party and included in the basket of boons, Mr Rajagopal alleged.
Mr Jagan was making all these promises well before elections, but his father Dr Reddy won elections without making a single promise. Mr Naidu made several promises including transfer of Rs 2,000 directly to the account of every family, but the people had no confidence in him.
After giving a big buildup on the Telangana issue Mr Jagan publicly admitted that he could not do anything telling everybody that he was a “weakling”.
The press conference of the MP was disrupted for a while when activists of Samaikyandhra movement came in a procession and raised slogans demanding that all MPs and MLAs of Seemandhra region also resign.
Responding to the demands of the activists Mr Rajagopal reiterated that the resignation of MPs and MLAs would not be of any use.
