Youngsters have a duty to vote

April 07, 2014 11:18 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 09:18 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Despite Election Commission conducting many awareness programmes and advertisements on the importance of casting votes, many, especially youngsters are not evincing interest in franchising their votes. Recently, during the municipal elections, I and my wife cast our votes to elect an eligible Corporator but in my neighbourhood, couple of youngsters, who work in software companies, had arrived for Ugadi holidays. To my surprise, they did not cast their votes and confined to their homes. I request all the youngsters to cast their vote in the next ensuing elections.

Enforce road safety rules

Every year, the vehicular population is increasing in the city and unfortunately, authorities are not increasing the road width or constructing new roads to regulate traffic flow efficiently. This apart, many youngsters are driving two and four wheelers without any proper training or driving licence and this practice can put lives of many people, particularly pedestrians in danger.

Authorities should enforce road safety rules strictly and initiate action against those, who drive vehicles without valid licence.

Pass salary bills in time

Teachers working in private aided schools have not been receiving their monthly salaries regularly. In some cases, they are left unpaid for three months. When teachers working in government and Zilla Parishad schools are paid their salaries regularly and promptly, it is unfortunate those working in aided schools are not paid their salaries regularly.

Government should take up measures for the release teaching grants and ensure the district educational officers pass the salary bills in time.
