: Mudavath Rani (20), who allegedly committed six thefts in 60 days, landed in jail. Police recovered jewellery, one laptop and one tab, all worth about Rs. 3.20 lakh from her possession.
Rani, a native of Budawada village in Jaggaiahpet mandal, married a person of the same village last year and was staying at Nidamanuru on Vijayawada outskirts. He was pursuing B. Tech.
The woman, who was habituated to luxurious , started committing thefts in houses. The modus operandi of Rani is to observe when children and aged persons are at home, divert their attention by asking to get a glass of water, pick up the articles and ornaments on tables and almirahs and escape from the scene. “She committed thefts in the houses located under Patamata, Penamaluru, Gannavaram and One Town police station limits. She would search flower pots and windows and open the locks, if the house owners kept the keys there,” the Central Crime Station (CCS) police, who made the arrest on Saturday, said in a press release.
People are requested to alert the neighbours if they plan for a tour during summer vacation or when children and aged persons are left at homes to prevent thefts, said City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang.
