Members of three different media organisations and activists of the Students’ Federation of India staged a demonstration in front of the Prakasam District Police Office (DPO) here on Wednesday in protest against the ‘stifling the voice of democracy’ by the State police.

The journalists, led by Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists’ Federation (APWJF) Prakasam district secretary S.V. Bramham, Prakasam District Electronic Media Journalists Association (PEMJA) president Fairoz Baig and Media Cameramen and Photographers’ Association president V. Nageswara Rao raised slogans pressing for withdrawal of the >case filed against The Hindu Resident Editor S. Nagesh Kumar in connection with a report filed on a meeting between Director-General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy and a spiritual leader in Hyderabad recently.

Activists of the SFI, led by its district secretary B. Raghuram expressed solidarity with the agitating journalists. APWJF district president Kasi Viswanath, Vartha daily bureau chief Hari Babu condemned the harassment of The Hindu RE and his family members in the name of probe.
Memo submitted
Earlier, the journalists, including Andhra Bhoomi staff reporter P. Vijaybhaskar Reddy, Andhra Prabha staff reporter Rajasekhar submitted a memorandum to Congress MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy.
