The super structure has been completed, and final touches are being given to the elevation (the exteriors) of new buildings, and the landscaping too is being done. However another few months are required to complete the interiors and provide the facilities needed for their occupation.
New buildings with a built-up area of 30,000 square feet are getting ready for the Irrigation Department in the compound of the Vijayawada Irrigation Circle Superintending Engineers office behind the Civil Courts.
They were constructed to accommodate the offices of the Krishna Delta Modernisation Chief Engineer, Vijayawada Irrigation Circle Superintending Engineer (SE) and three Executive Engineers (EE). The Chief Engineer post was created after the grounding of the Delta Modernisation project that began in 2007. The Office of the Krishna Central Division EE is over 7 decades old. The Superintending Engineer’s office is more recent, but is in a dilapidated condition.
The Irrigation officials are however afraid that the newly created accommodation would be occupied not by them, but by the big bosses of the department who would be relocated to the new state after June 2.
“The possibility of this was strong because the early shifting only made administrative sense for departments like Irrigation. And the availability of accommodation was only likely to accelerate it,” an official said. Renovations could be made for the buildings in which the CE, SE and EEs were currently functioning, he added.
