The school joined hands to solve the problem of their village. They constructed a temporary road with wild vegetation on a drain to reach their school in another village.
A drain passing between Naimthalakunta and Alinqipalem in Pamimukklala has been a problem for the both the villages. The red-tapism had upped their ante. The construction of a bridge over it were stopped mid way causing much agony to the villagers, mostly schoolchildren.
The villagers say that the government promised that a pucca bridge over it. Much to their delight, the works began long ago. The officials brought earthmovers to dig the drain. The works progressed well till the drain was widened. However, neither the bridge was constructed nor the drain covered, they say.
Pittu Chittibabu, Namithalakunta villager, explains that the children came forward to solve the problem. They have neither road rollers nor shovels or experience. Their will has made them solve the problem, at least temporarily. The children cut wood and filled the drain with the it, rock and soil. Now, people can ride cycles. More than 20 children from Namithalakunta go to the school in Choragudi daily or nearby private schools, he adds.
Jaffer, a villager from Alinaqipalem, says that Patel Engineering Company bagged the contract. The work was stopped midway and officials were not responding to the problem despite many representations. Had the officials responded properly in time, the bridge would have been in place by now. The irrigation waters were not reaching due to closure of the drain. Now, the farmers were solely dependent on borewells. Above all, it is a Herculean Task for Namithalakunta villagers to reach main road in the event of emergency.
