Water to be released for filling summer storage tanks

A decision has been taken to release 2,500 cusecs of water into Ryve's canal for filling of summer storage tanks of Gudivada, Machilipatnam, Kaikaluru, and Krithivennu towns.

Ryve's canal will be kept open till April 7 for the purpose. Secondary Education Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi reviewed the drinking water situation in Krishna district on Tuesday. District Collector S.A.M Rizwi, MLAs and MLCs of the district participated in the meeting.

The Minister said the State government had earmarked Rs. 4 crore for providing contingency measures to provide drinking water to people in rural areas and Rs 50 lakh for people in urban areas of the district during this summer.

The peoples' representatives were informed that 90 per cent of the hand pumps in the district were in working condition.

Of the 318 drinking water tanks 70 were 95 per cent full, 115 were 75 per cent to 90 per cent full and 93 tanks were 50 per cent to 75 per cent full. There were another 40 tanks that needed to be filled and water was being released in Ryve's canal till April 7 for the purpose. MLAs Perni Venkataramayya, Malladi Vishnu, Yellamanchili Ravi, Vellampalli Srinivas, and D Padmajyothi, and MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah attended.
