The Bhavani Island Tourism Corporation (BITC) believes that water sports will act as a catalyst to drive tourism growth in the Krishna River region.
Hence, to expand water sports activities, the BITC has selected two water sports operators — Amaravati Boating Club and WaterSports Simple — through a competitive bidding process to set up and operate water sports at seven new locations in the Krishna River.
This will result in the formation of an integrated river circuit, from VMC-Canal to Pavithra Sangamam, covering critical points such as Alankar Talkies, Durga ghat, Bhavani Island and Gollapudi, starting from June 2017.
Another notable aspect of this development is the fact that diverse water sports activities will be available to public — from Jetski, speed boat, kayaking, river cruise to special rides like zorbing.
“The move will generate revenue for BITC as the private operator will pay revenue share, which can be leveraged to develop Bhavani Island further,” said Himanshu Shukla, CEO of BITC, after signing an agreement to this effect.
In line with the government’s objective to develop potential tourism destinations, the Department of Tourism has identified five hubs for expansion and Vijayawada-Amaravati hub is one such key tourism hubs.
In particular, Bhavani Island and the adjacent riverfront areas form a strategic circuit of high tourist potential, being accessible from both — existing cities of Vijayawada and Guntur and the upcoming capital of Amaravati.
