Irrigation authorities have stopped releasing water into the canals of the Prakasam Barrage to build up the level for Krishna Pushkaram. The barrage received inflows of about 8,000 cusecs from Pulichintala, according to readings taken at 3 p.m.

There is scope to raise the level by another two feet so that water enters the bathing ghats.

A level of 54.75 feet over the mean sea level (MSL) against the full reservoir level of 57.05 feet MSL was recorded on Thursday. Channels have been created from the barrage to take water downstream.

The authorities plan to release water in a controlled manner from the Scour Sluice Gates located on the either end of the barrage. The Gates that are located a level lower than the crest gates were recently replaced to facilitate their proper operation at considerable cost under the Krishna Delta Modernisation Scheme.

The Srisailam reservoir which received an average of 1.79 lakh cusecs released 45,000 cusecs after power generation.

The Nagarjuna Sagar dam recorded 33,000 cusecs on Thursday and 6,500 cusecs had been released downstream after power generation. The remaining 6,300 cusecs is being released into the NS Right Main Canal that takes water to Guntur and Prakasam districts.
