The two-day 27 Walkers’ International Convention ‘Trends’ began at Siddhartha auditorium here on Saturday. More than a thousand members of Walkers’ Clubs from around the country and a few from abroad gathered for the event which was organised in the city after a gap of nearly 17 years.
Participating as the chief guest, Swami Prathamesananda of Chinmaya Mission exhorted the participants to be content with what God gifted to them and to serve the needy in society. Every individual should strive to be a good human-being instead of craving for worldly comforts he said and pointed out that what sets God apart from humans was forgiveness, which the God possesses in abundance whereas the ones created by Him were habituated to forgetting.
“God only gives and forgives whereas we always get and forget to have the gratitude for having so many things gifted to us”, Swami Prathamesananda observed and appreciated the efforts being made by Walkers’ International for not only promoting healthy lifestyle but also protecting the environment and rendering various other services.
Walkers’ International president M.V. Rao and Convention Committee Chairman T.V. Hanumantha Rao explained the activities undertaken by members of the fledgling organisation which, they said, was expanding much faster than the Rotary and Lions Clubs around the world. Later, Dr. P.V. Ramana Murthy of Andhra Hospitals and Krishna Reddy of Manipal Super-Speciality Hospital gave presentations on treatment of gastroenterological diseases and cancer respectively.
