Various programmes organised by the Siddhartha Walkers Association members for the betterment of under-privileged are commendable, said VGTM UDA Vice-Chairman G.S.R.K.R. Vijaya Kumar.
Speaking at the 18 Anniversary Celebrations of the Association on Sunday, he appreciated the efforts of the members for social service and also requested their cooperation in making the city more beautiful. Association president Valluru Ravindranath started with a brief introduction of the association and said that even special yoga classes were being conducted for the members.
Chief Advisor Musunuru Narayana Rao explained more about the activities of the association on this occasion.
“We basically conduct two different types of programmes -- one for the health benefit of the members and others for the benefit of the under privileged in the society,” he said. This year they plan to expand their benefit programmes to a larger population to reach out to more people in more areas, he added.
About Rs.1 lakh was given to under privileged kids on this occasion by the members. Prizes for the various competitions held by the association were distributed to the winners by the chief guest. A special cultural programme was organised by the Vijaya Mary Blind School at these celebrations.
Siddhartha Academy Secretary N. Venkateswarulu, Former President of Association K. Ramandam, and future president M.V. Rao participated in this programme.
