State Chief Electoral Officer S. Bhanwar Lal has said that the Election Commission will issue colour voter identity cards if the voter gives colour photos. Enrolment of new voters and revision/correction of information on ID cards would be done from May 16, he said.
Participating in a meeting with the officials in Vijayawada on Sunday, the CEO said that the staff would visit door-to-door at booth level and enrol new voters at micro level. The officials will accept information on correction and change of photographs during the process.
Mr. Bhanwar Lal directed the officials to organise training for the staff and ensure that all the employees attend the training sessions. He asked the district officials to prepare the final voter list as per schedule, keeping in view the 2014 general elections.
Collector Budha Prakash M. Jyothi explained that training classes were being conducted at booth level in all divisions and focus was being laid on educational institutions. Steps were being taken to identify migrants and create awareness among the public and especially in fishermen villages.
District Revenue Officer L. Vijay Chander, Sub-Collector D. Harichandana, Revenue Divisional Officers P. Ranjith Pasha, B. Subba Rao and Saibaba participated in the meeting.
Earlier, the State Chief Electoral Officer had darshan of goddess Kanaka Durga atop Indrakeeladri along with his family members. He performed special pujas on the occasion.
