The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) employees and workers have boycotted their duties demanding that the State government pay their salaries through treasury.

VMC Employees and Workers Joint Action Committee convener D. Eswar on Monday said that the sanitation came to a grinding halt with the sanitary workers not attending to their duties. The administration was also halted as the employees of all wings, including revenue, boycotted their duties. The JAC has decided to boycott water supply and street lighting services also if the government did not respond to the genuine demand of the corporation employees, he said.

Mr. Eswar said that the employees of other corporations and municipalities were receiving salaries through treasury i.e. under 010 head of account. However, the VMC employees were denied though they went on strike a year ago. The corporation could not pay the salaries by first week of every month. The government was requested to respond positively keeping in view of finances of the corporation, and treat the VMC employees on par with other municipalities and other corporation, he said.

The JAC leader said that the employees drafted for pulse polio were exempted. They would attend duties as usual on February 26, he added.
