Soon, your entry into the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, which comes under the purview of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, will be restricted, as the civic body is keen on issuing identity cards for all the users — athletes, walkers, and staff.
The corporation is also contemplating beefing up the security by posting armed personnel at the entrance of the stadium. The corporation will install metal detectors, closed circuit cameras (CC cameras) in phase-I at the stadium. It will invite tenders from the security agencies that are recognised either by the State or Central governments.
The successful bidder will have to install the requisite security gadgets and deploy the armed personnel, sources say. The VMC will also issue identity cards to the players, walkers, and staff on duty to check the entry of “antisocial elements.” The CC cameras will be installed at the entrance and at vantage points of the stadium. The entry fee, according to sources, will be Rs.50 per head.
Second phase
In the next phase, the security will be beefed up at Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao Municipal Corporation (DRRMC) Indoor Stadium. The VMC has decided to fortify stadiums, public places such as Rajiv Gandhi Park near Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) following a suggestion from the city police. Contractors of parking places have already been asked to install CC cameras for security reasons, officials say.
With this move, the VMC will gain hold over the stadiums and streamline the sports activities. The file related to the security cover for the IGMC Stadium is with Additional Commissioner (Projects).
