The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation’s standing committee on Thursday decided to dispose of 74 tonne of timber, collected during felling of trees for various reasons, for Rs.1, 24,900, in an auction.

The VMC had invited bids for the auction on December 17, 2014 and fixed the base price per tonne at Rs.1,800. In all, 49 bidders, who had participated in the auction, urged the officials to slash the price. Declining their plea, the corporation had invited bids for auction again on December 30, 2014. Maong 25 bidders, only Abdul Khader had quoted Rs.1,850 per tonne, Rs.50 higher than the corporation’s base price.

The timber would be handed over to the bidder only after the payment is done.
