Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian inspected places in the city selected for beautification with the assistance of Guizhou International Investment Corporation (GIIC) of China, on Wednesday along with A.P Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Limited Chairman N. Chandramohan Reddy, GIIC team members and officials of Vijayawada and Guntur municipal corporations and the Mangalagiri Municipality.
2-km-long ghat
Mr. Veerapandian and others visited Eluru, Ryves and Bandar canals’ banks, Alluri Sitarama Raju Bridge at Gulabithota, Sambamurthy Road and Alankar Centre and discussed ways to clean the canals and prevent contamination of drinking water with waste matter. The GIIC delegates have been requested to prepare action plans and were given copies of the Kanaka Durga flyover which is under construction to suggest ways to transform it into a tourist attraction.
Mr. Veerapandian said it was proposed to develop a 2-kilometre - long ghat for Krishna Pushkaram comprising Model guesthouse area, Durga Ghat, Punnami Ghat and other contiguous areas. Constructions that stand in the way would have to be removed after allotting flats in G+3 buildings being constructed by the VMC. Other places that have to be spruced up as part of the government’s ‘blue and green’ project are Kanakadurga Varadhi Junction and Rajiv Gandhi Park, K.L. Rao Park and Kanaka Durga Gazetted Officers’ Colony and APIIC Colony parks.
The GIIC team was also asked to devise ways of beautifying central road dividers, road margins and traffic junctions. Additional Commissioner of VMC P. Arun Babu, chief engineer M.A. Shukoor, city planner Pradeep Kumar, executive engineers Uday Kumar and Govinda Rao, Mangalagiri Municipal Commissioner T.V. Ranga Rao were present.
