The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is going green by launching e-Office initiative to process all its files, reports and other documents online and reduce use of paper. The initiative was launched in the administration wing of the corporation on Wednesday on a pilot basis.

Efforts were being made to launch the initiative in all other departments very shortly. A special awareness programme was organised for the employees and VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian said that in the coming days all the files would be processed online without any use of paper. “All the past records and files are being scanned for processing the documents online,” he said while making a presentation to the employees.

Each employee will be given an email identification, username and password to log in and process their respective files and documents. All clerks, section superintendents, managers and additional commissioner should forward the files or submit reports online, doing away with the present hardcopies presentation, he said.

To begin with, the initiative has been launched in the administration wing and shortly all the other departments would be covered, he added.

Meanwhile, Margam, a voluntary organisation, has extended its support to make the city clean and green especially ensuring poster-free and flexi-free city. The organisation members met Mr. Veerapandian and discussed their plans in keeping the city clean and clearing all the unauthorised banners and flexis.

They informed the Commissioner that banners and flexis were not only defacing the city ambience but also acting as traffic hindrances at few places. They urged education institutions, students and local corporators to extend their help in keeping the city clean and clearing unwanted posters and banners.

The Commissioner instructed the town-planning section to chalk out plans for taking up a drive and initiate stern action against those installing banners, flexis without permission.
