It was an unusual scene altogether at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) main office on Tuesday. Taps and water kiosks at the Corporation literally went dry. The Corporation employees eagerly waited for a water tanker to meet their drinking water needs.

The employees were seen fetching water from the tanker in bottles and water cans during lunch hours. Rising temperatures made their life miserable as they had to rush to the tanker frequently to refill their water bottles. And. those who could not gulp sizzling water from the tanker, relied on packaged drinking water bottles from outside. Though the power cuts do hit the water coolers, they never went dry. “We cannot accuse anyone. Sometimes we have to swallow the bitter pill,” said employees.

The water supply hit in localities due to breaking of a main pipeline near Freedom Fighters Building in Governorpet. The corporation officials took up repair works on a war-footing. Nearly 25,000 people would have suffered due to the damage to the pipeline. The corporation supplies water to Governorpeta and other areas from Pushkar ghat near Sitammavari Paadalu and the VMC main office. The drinking water to the corporation is also supplied from this section only.
