Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu has stated that there are no financial constraints in paying salaries by the fifth of every month.
Addressing a meeting of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) employees here on Wednesday, Mr. Ravi Babu said that the employees' agitation drew the attention of the State Government. Hence, the employees should suspend their protest and join duties immediately.
The employees told the Commissioner that huge funds would be at the disposal of the Corporation if their salaries were paid through treasury, 010 head of account. The VMC could take up many developmental works if the government shouldered the burden of the salaries, he said.
The Commissioner said that the employees had misconceptions that the Corporation was being pushed into debt trap. In reality, the finances of the corporation were very good. The VMC took up many developmental projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme.
The State and Central governments would release their share in the projects as soon as the works were completed. The VMC sent necessary reports and has been apprising the government of progress of the works. The Corporation finances would improve as soon as the government released its share, he said.
The Commissioner urged the employees to shed away the misconceptions that the Corporation would not be able to pay the salaries in the days to come. Their salaries would be credited into their account irrespective of 010 account. The employees should be part of the city development process, he added.
Chief Engineer Kondal Rao, Superintending Engineers Moses Kumar and Venkateswara Rao, Examiner of Accounts M. Vara Prasad and CMOH M. Satyanarayana Raju were present.
