The Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) has urged the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to take adequate measures and protect the people from landslides. The party also wanted the corporation to take concrete steps to protect the people living in dilapidated buildings.

CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao on Thursday said that 230 buildings were identified as dilapidated buildings in the city.

The officials, however, have not disclosed the details such as how many were living in those buildings and what measures being taken. A scientific study of the dilapidated buildings was need of the hour, he said. A woman received grievous injuries when a wall collapsed in 36th division. She is undergoing treatment in a hospital at Guntur.

A portion of Ramgopal satram also caved in sending the people in tizzy. The landslides in hilly areas worries people, he said adding, the Corporation was requested to take necessary steps to prevent mishaps.
