The city Congress leaders came down heavily on party leadership, more particularly AP in charge Digvijay Singh, at a relay hunger strike here on Monday.
Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu and others sat on relay hunger strike at Gandhi Nagar to register their resentment and protest against the UPA government decision to bifurcate the State.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Vishnu said that Mr. Digvijay Singh, instead of addressing the Telangana problem, has been precipitating. His approach towards Seemandhra people was objectionable. In fact, his statements were provocative in nature, and fuelling the agitation in Seemandhra, the MLA said.
The government and party leadership should not undermine the ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation. The passions were running high and agitation reflects the mood of people. AICC president Sonia Gandhi needs to take stock of the prevailing situation and take appropriate steps. Ms. Gandhi also needs to replace Mr. Digvijay Singh with an able leader. Mr. Vishnu, referring to letters given by the political parties, said that the principal opposition parties were playing hide and seek on Telangana issue. They have given letters with an eye on power. Their double speak was creating confusion among the people. They were requested to take back their letters and ask the Central government to keep the State united, he said.
The apprehensions over bifurcation of the State needed to be addressed. A united State was the only solution for issues such as sharing of water and power, being raised by the people, he added.
