Dasara festival began on a grand note at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam here on Tuesday. Some of the highlights of the festival at Indrakeeladri, abode of goddess Kanaka Durga are:

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders, including Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, visited the temple by foot. They went to the temple by passing through dharma (free) darshan queue line. They interacted with the devotees in the queue lines to understand the problems faced by the commoner. Later at media point, they urged all other political leaders not to cause inconvenience to common man by preferring VIP darshan.

Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srinivas, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu, City Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy, former Endowments Commissioner Sundar Kumar and others visited the temple.

The MLAs, speaking to reporters, urged the TDP leaders not to politicize the Dasara festivities. The temple has made elaborate arrangements for the festival. The hassle free darshan for a common man was main objective of the temple, they said.

The police commissioner inaugurated a police outpost on Indrakeeladri. He said that the outpost would be useful for the policemen on duty. The police could take rest there. The police made bandobust arrangements to regulate traffic, monitor queue lines, prevent the unwarranted incidents.
